This technical report examines the barriers to the adoption of Fixed-Income Execution Management Systems (EMS) as identified through a survey conducted by Coalition Greenwich. The report outlines several key barriers, including a preference for direct trading venues, lack of technical resources, a tendency to rely on traditional trading methods, and insufficient trading volume to justify investment in an EMS. It discusses the implications of these barriers on firms' trading strategies and execution efficiency. Additionally, the report highlights the increasing digitization of fixed-income trading and the necessity for firms to adapt to remain competitive. The findings suggest that while some firms are hesitant, there is a growing recognition of the importance of EMS technology in enhancing trading capabilities and achieving superior execution. The report also emphasizes the potential benefits of integrating EMS solutions to streamline workflows and improve data utilization in trading processes.
