This case study details the migration project undertaken by Uniper, a global energy sector player, to decommission their OpenText Documentum ECM system. The project involved migrating approximately 11.5 million documents, totaling nearly 2 terabytes of content, spread across 97 cabinets with over 60 document types and 170 individual attributes. The migration faced challenges including stringent quality assurance requirements, which necessitated a multi-step process for each cabinet, followed by user acceptance testing and quality assurance audits. Additionally, the project was constrained by a tight timeframe. Uniper engaged the Migration Services team of fme AG, utilizing their migration-center product to navigate all project phases, including analysis, conception, classification, transformation rule definition, migration, and quality assurance. The migration addressed challenges such as handling branches, virtual documents, and incompatibilities between the source and target systems. Ultimately, the project was completed on time and within budget, achieving significant cost savings and meeting quality standards.
