This case study details the technological advancements made by Sociedad Punta del Cobre, known as Pucobre, a Chilean copper mining company, in integrating IT and OT systems using Fortinet solutions. Pucobre, which operates in the Atacama region, has been producing fine copper for nearly 35 years and is currently transitioning to an open-pit mining project. The company faced challenges in productivity and security due to outdated systems and minimal connectivity between mining operations and external systems. To address these issues, Pucobre partnered with Fortinet to modernize its architecture, deploying a high-bandwidth communications network and enhancing security measures. The integration of Fortinet's Security Fabric allowed for centralized visibility and control over both IT and OT environments, significantly improving operational efficiency and reducing complexity. The case study outlines the steps taken to achieve a unified infrastructure, including the deployment of multiple Fortinet products, and highlights the business impacts such as increased network bandwidth and reduced operational costs.
