Workshop on Resilient Built Environment Transformation

This document is a report on a workshop held on May 27, 2025, titled '(Re)constructing a Resilient Built Environment: Digital, Circular & Affordable'. The event, co-organized by Fraunhofer, SINTEF, TNO, and VTT, gathered over 50 experts in Brussels to discuss the transformation of the built environment in Europe. It addressed key challenges such as rising housing costs, low productivity, and environmental impacts, in the context of significant EU policy initiatives. The workshop emphasized the need for an integrated approach combining digitalization, circularity, and affordability to drive systemic change. Participants highlighted the potential of digital tools and the importance of coordinated actions to promote circular construction. Affordability was discussed not merely as a constraint but as a catalyst for innovation. The report outlines the necessity for collaboration among stakeholders and the urgency of implementing solutions to meet climate and social challenges, ultimately aiming for a sustainable and inclusive growth in the built environment.
