Artificial Intelligence Adoption in Healthcare Institutions

This article is a systematic literature review that integrates and contextualizes relevant literature on the factors influencing the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare institutions. It identifies the challenges faced by global health systems, such as increasing patient numbers and the prevalence of chronic diseases, and discusses the potential of AI to address these challenges. The review proposes a comprehensive framework, the Adoption of AI in the Healthcare Industry Model, which encompasses five dimensions that influence AI adoption. These dimensions include macro-economic, regulatory, and technological readiness as external antecedents, alongside organizational and individual readiness as internal antecedents. The findings highlight the fragmented nature of existing literature on AI adoption in healthcare and emphasize the need for a holistic framework to guide future research. The review also offers practical guidance for AI providers and health institutions to facilitate the adoption of AI technologies, ultimately aiming to enhance healthcare delivery and outcomes.
