This case study details how the CLiP® Current Limiting Protector assisted the City of Lodi in addressing its growing energy demands. The City of Lodi, located in California, was working on a new 48MW power plant to enhance its power generation capacity. However, the proposed site raised concerns regarding fault current overload, which could lead to catastrophic failures in the distribution system. The study outlines the challenges faced, including the need to limit fault contributions from the new plant to maintain grid safety and reliability. Various solutions were evaluated, including current limiting fuses and reactors, but they were found insufficient. Ultimately, the CLiP current limiting protector was selected for its ability to clear faults rapidly without reducing power generation capacity. The implementation of this solution allowed the City to energize the plant on schedule, saving costs and preserving grid efficiency and reliability.
