This case study details the upgrade of the power infrastructure at the Hotel Playa Grande Resort, a luxury destination in Los Cabos, Mexico. The resort aimed to enhance the reliability and efficiency of its power systems while modernizing outdated equipment. The existing ATC201 control system was obsolete, prompting the need for a solution that would integrate modern automation technology without a full system replacement. G&W Electric proposed a targeted upgrade, replacing the outdated ATC with a retrofit ATC control solution using a SEL-751A relay. The upgrade process involved a thorough assessment, seamless integration of new technology, and efficient project execution, completed in just six hours. The results included enhanced operational reliability, significant cost savings, improved safety, and sustainability through the reuse of existing infrastructure. This project serves as a model for future upgrades in similar facilities across Mexico and Latin America, demonstrating the importance of innovative solutions in modernizing aging power systems.
