This case study presents the findings of an optimisation study conducted on the heat network of the Council House, operated by Coventry City Council. The study was initiated due to concerns regarding the efficiency of heat distribution and the rising costs of heat from the district network. The report outlines the current heating arrangements, which include a smart thermostatic radiator valve control system, and identifies the need for improvements to minimize financial burdens on customers. Key recommendations from the study include recommissioning radiator circuits for better hydraulic balancing, replacing old constant-speed pumps with variable-speed pumps, and improving insulation on heat pipes. The projected benefits of implementing these recommendations include reduced operational costs and enhanced heat distribution efficiency, which could also benefit other buildings connected to the district network. The findings will be shared with the Facilities Management team, and a capital funding application is expected to be submitted for further improvements.
