This case study outlines the implementation of a bespoke IoT-driven manufacturing solution for TRUMPF, aimed at realizing their Industry 4.0 vision. The document describes the challenges faced by TRUMPF, particularly the need for a real-time manufacturing ecosystem that leverages data as a critical production factor. To address these challenges, GFT designed and implemented a customized version of the Ubuntu Server operating system, utilizing Agile methods and a serverless AWS architecture. The engagement involved continuous development and testing to ensure the solution met TRUMPF's specific requirements. The benefits of this new system include significant improvements in efficiency and control, enabling TRUMPF to automate the setup of IoT Edge devices and maintain a continuous delivery pipeline for APIs. The solution was delivered within 18 months, allowing TRUMPF to focus on software development without the burden of managing operating systems, while also facilitating rapid deployment of new features and cost-effective operations.
