This case study outlines the deployment of a Cellular Backhaul over Satellite (CBH) system aimed at providing cellular service and internet connectivity to underserved populations in Mexico. The project addresses the challenge of reaching remote regions with difficult terrain and high costs associated with traditional infrastructure. Through a partnership with Hispasat and AXESS, the solution seeks to enhance the existing 4.5G LTE network coverage under the Altán Red Compartida initiative, which aims to connect 92.2% of the Mexican population by 2024. The Gilat SkyEdge II-c platform, utilized in this project, is designed to deliver a user experience comparable to terrestrial networks while being capable of future upgrades to 5G technology. The case study also discusses the necessity of satellite technology to provide rapid connectivity in locations where land-based solutions are economically unfeasible. It emphasizes the collective effort to bridge the digital divide for millions of individuals lacking access to essential internet services.
