Sector Program Review and Recommendations Document

This document is a technical report prepared by the GRI Standards Division, detailing the results of the Sector Program review and presenting recommendations for discussion by the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB). The review assesses the progress of the Sector Program and the adoption of the published Sector Standards over the past five years. It consolidates findings from desk research, interviews, and analyses of sustainability reports. The report confirms the relevance and value of the Sector Standards while identifying areas for improvement. It outlines a series of recommendations aimed at enhancing the application and efficacy of these standards, including the introduction of requirements for sector reporting on key impacts, updates to the referencing system, and continued engagement with other standard setters. The GSSB is invited to consider these recommendations in the context of ongoing projects and the upcoming 2026-2028 Work Program.
