This technical report details the implementation of an automated X-ray inspection (AXI) system for temperature sensors at KYOCERA AVX Components in Dresden, Germany. The report outlines the necessity for automation due to increasing demand, which previously relied on manual X-ray systems. The selected AXI system from GÖPEL electronic was modified to enable full inspection of temperature sensors in a multi-shift operation. Key features include the development of lightweight, stable carriers using carbon and 3D printed components, allowing for the simultaneous inspection of multiple sensors. The report describes the integration of a motorized rotation unit, referred to as 'the sausage flipper,' which enhances inspection depth by capturing images from multiple angles. Additionally, it highlights the use of artificial intelligence for analyzing X-ray images, particularly for evaluating welded joints within the sensors. The report concludes with a summary of the system's workflow, emphasizing the benefits of increased throughput and reduced human error in the inspection process.
