This case study details the challenges faced by Nagarjuna Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd. (NFCL) in maintaining the operational efficiency of their ammonia and urea plants due to severe vibrational problems in their pumps. The document outlines the initial issues encountered with the lean carbamate solution circulation pumps and overhead condensate pumps, which led to significant operational disruptions. Despite various analyses and attempts to rectify the situation, the problems persisted until a solution was recommended. The study explains the implementation of Greene Tweed’s WR® 300 PEEK composite bushings and wear rings, which were introduced to replace the original materials. The results demonstrated a substantial increase in the mean time between failure (MTBF) from less than three months to over 24 months, effectively increasing the pump lifespan by eight times. The case study emphasizes the importance of material selection in enhancing pump reliability and operational efficiency.
