This document is a report on the GS1 Sustainability Discovery Project, which was launched in partnership with Accenture to explore how GS1 can provide value to its members by addressing sustainability challenges. The project identified the urgency for sustainability action due to the impacts of climate change and emerging regulations, particularly in the EU. It outlines four strategic sustainability focus areas: Regulatory Compliance, Supply Chain Responsibility & Transparency, Material & Resource Management, and Energy & Climate Action. These areas aim to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability throughout the value chain. The report details a 2-year strategic roadmap that guides GS1's sustainability efforts, emphasizing the importance of education, awareness, and stakeholder engagement. It also discusses the need for tools and templates to help members navigate evolving regulations and improve product traceability. The findings highlight GS1's commitment to supporting its members in achieving their sustainability goals and adapting to regulatory demands.
