This document is a case study detailing the implementation of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) for dunnage logistics within a manufacturing environment. The ATLAS team faced a complex logistics challenge involving the efficient handling of dunnage, which included retrieving and delivering materials while ensuring operational safety. A benchmark of six trips per hour was proposed to enhance efficiency. The solution involved deploying three MiR 250 robots that worked collaboratively to navigate the facility aisles, effectively managing the dunnage logistics. Safety measures were integrated according to site requirements, and a custom PLC program was developed to facilitate communication between the operator and the robot fleet. The power company recognized the advantages of automation in their supply chain and is exploring additional applications for MiR products. The project resulted in significant operational improvements, including a 25% reduction in labor costs and a 98% mission success rate, showcasing the successful integration of technology into logistics processes.
