This research article investigates the influence of perceived stress, resilience, social support, psychosocial work environment, and professional identification on the professional well-being and quality of life (QoL) of Portuguese nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study employs a longitudinal design, collecting data through self-administered questionnaires at three different time points from November 2021 to June 2023. A total of 555 responses were analyzed, revealing that physical and psychological QoL improved over time, while perceived stress and support from colleagues decreased. The findings indicate that lower perceived stress, higher resilience, and increased social support correlate with better professional well-being and QoL. The research highlights the significant negative impact of perceived stress on nurses' well-being and emphasizes the importance of resilience and job satisfaction as positive determinants. The study aims to fill a gap in existing literature by providing a comprehensive understanding of these factors and their implications for supporting nurses in future public health emergencies.
