This case study details the transition of a leading health system in Oregon from an outsourced to an employed anesthesia program. The health system faced significant challenges, including rising costs and declining anesthesia coverage, as the incumbent anesthesia group could not meet staffing needs. To address these issues and ensure consistent anesthesia coverage, health system leaders decided to implement interim support during the transition. The Medicus Transition Program was introduced to stabilize the physician and advanced practitioner workforce. Key challenges included the inability of the incumbent group to provide sufficient anesthesiologists and the need for immediate support. The case study outlines how Medicus Healthcare Solutions successfully sourced, screened, and onboarded 15 locum anesthesiologists, ensuring uninterrupted coverage and operational efficiency. The program was launched without any operating room closures, highlighting the effectiveness of the partnership in maintaining surgical access and improving team morale.
