This case study outlines the challenges faced by a health system in Illinois regarding its cardiology programs, which were experiencing burnout and cultural issues among physicians. The leadership aimed to enhance operations and rebuild a positive culture while ensuring patient care continuity. The Medicus Transition Program was implemented to stabilize the cardiology program, addressing key challenges such as maintaining access during realignment, rebuilding collaboration, and aligning staffing with strategic goals. The program facilitated the onboarding of 22 locum tenens cardiologists, which improved the department's culture and increased the appeal for new hires. Additionally, the program provided end-to-end staffing support, including the identification of a new director of cardiology. Consistent communication between Medicus and health system leadership was maintained throughout the project, ensuring alignment and timely responses. The case study highlights the effectiveness of the Medicus Transition Program in achieving stability and supporting long-term success for the cardiology programs.
