This case study outlines the transition of a prominent academic hospital in New Jersey from an outsourced OB-GYN model to an employed OB hospitalist model. The hospital faced critical staffing challenges after receiving a 60-day termination notice from its outsourced OB-GYN group. Hospital leadership aimed to ensure uninterrupted patient care while securing adequate staffing levels within a tight 30-day timeframe. The Medicus Transition Program was engaged to address the urgent need for overnight and weekend OB hospitalist coverage. Medicus managed the immediate staffing needs and scheduling, allowing the hospital's internal team to focus on recruiting permanent physicians. Over a period of 12 months, Medicus provided consistent support, ensuring stable OB hospitalist coverage and facilitating the onboarding of 10 qualified OB hospitalists. The program emphasized clinical and cultural alignment, enabling a seamless integration of locum physicians into the hospital's environment, ultimately leading to a successful implementation of the employed OB hospitalist model.
