This case study outlines the transition of a large non-profit health system in New Jersey from an outsourced radiology coverage model to an employed radiology program. The objective of this transition was to enhance collaboration among specialty programs and improve overall performance and patient outcomes. The health system recognized that the existing outsourced model did not align with their strategic staffing goals, prompting the leadership to initiate the change. Key challenges included securing locum radiology coverage during the transition and ensuring adequate staffing to support the new employed model. The Medicus Transition Program played a crucial role in this process by providing a team of locum radiologists who integrated seamlessly into the health system's culture and clinical requirements. The successful implementation led to strengthened collaboration across specialties and the eventual conversion of several locum providers to permanent positions, further solidifying the new radiology service line.
