Net Zero LEED Gold Community Center Case Study

This case study outlines a new Public Works project that replaces an older structure with a modern community center, completed in July 2025. The facility, which is city-owned and accessible to the public, serves various functions including after-school programs, summer activities for children, community events, and private gatherings such as weddings. Designed to achieve net-zero energy consumption while meeting LEED Gold certification standards, the structure incorporates comprehensive building management system (BMS) controls aimed at maximizing energy efficiency. Key features include hydronic radiant slabs, high-quality insulation, and monitored windows and doors, ensuring a consistently comfortable indoor climate. The installed cooling and heating solution consists of a single chilled and hot water loop powered by two heat pumps on the roof, which distribute energy through multiple independent pumps. Various control protocols are implemented to optimize energy use based on real-time conditions. Continuous monitoring of electric circuits and operational faults ensures the system's reliability and efficiency.
