Digital Transformation in City Administration

This case study outlines the digital transformation process undertaken by the city of Cologne, focusing on the implementation of Icinga as a monitoring solution. The city, which employs 23,000 people across various departments, aimed to enhance its IT infrastructure to better serve its 1.1 million residents. The introduction of Icinga replaced multiple monitoring tools, offering greater customization and integration capabilities. With Icinga, the city can now monitor over 3,500 hosts and 45,000 services, significantly improving operational efficiency. The monitoring team, led by Wolfgang Winter, reports increased flexibility and reliability in their processes, allowing departments to request specific monitoring needs rather than having them imposed. The collaboration with Icinga partner NETWAYS has further strengthened their monitoring capabilities, ensuring a robust and scalable IT environment for the future.
