Braille Conversion for Multilingual Brochures

This case study outlines the project undertaken by Idea Translations to convert and print brochures for the Sacramento County Department of Child, Family & Adult Services (DCFAS) into Braille. The initiative aimed to make printed materials for various programs, including Adult Protective Services, In-Home Supportive Services, and Child Protective Services, accessible to individuals with visual impairments. The project faced challenges due to the need for multilingual Braille translation, as the brochures contained text in languages such as Arabic and Vietnamese, each requiring its own Braille system. After thorough research, Idea Translations partnered with the National Braille Press in Boston to handle the Braille conversion and printing process. The collaboration involved continuous communication and monitoring to ensure quality and accuracy. The successful delivery of these brochures not only enhanced accessibility but also reinforced DCFAS's commitment to inclusive communication, ultimately enabling them to reach a broader audience with essential information.
