Verification of Life Cycle Assessments for SIM Products

This technical report details the verification of Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) conducted by IDEMIA for its Consumer, M2M, and GREENCONNECT eco-friendly SIMs and Consumer eSIM solutions. In September 2022, IDEMIA engaged Bureau Veritas to validate these assessments, marking a significant milestone as IDEMIA becomes the first telecommunications company to achieve this verification. The report outlines the methodology used, including cradle-to-grave analyses and the impact of using recycled materials. It also discusses the importance of measuring emissions across different scopes, particularly Scope 3, which represents the largest share of total emissions in the telecommunications sector. Notable findings indicate that half-size SIMs can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 30%, while using recycled plastics can lead to an 18% reduction.
