This case study outlines the implementation of a device tracking network at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to address challenges related to misplaced medical equipment. The hospital, which serves a large patient population, faced significant issues with tracking its extensive inventory of over 15,000 medical devices. The Clinical Engineering team reported frustrations with manual tracking processes, which resulted in the loss of numerous devices and increased costs. To mitigate these challenges, the Trust adopted Idox’s iFIT system, integrating a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) network throughout the hospital. This solution enabled efficient tracking and management of medical equipment, reducing the time spent searching for devices and improving patient safety. The system's implementation was timely, as it allowed the hospital to effectively manage critical equipment during a surge in COVID-19 cases. The outcome demonstrated enhanced operational efficiency and improved patient care, showcasing the importance of technology in healthcare settings.
