Creating Performance Digital Twins for Building Lifecycle Management

This technical report presents the concept of Performance Digital Twins, focusing on their creation and application throughout the building lifecycle. It introduces the IES Sleeping Digital Twin initiative, which aims to transform dormant design and compliance models into actionable digital twins usable by various stakeholders in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) sectors. The report outlines the challenges in accessing such models, as many clients are unaware of their existence or functionality. It emphasizes the need for better training and collaboration among AEC practitioners and building operators to effectively bridge the performance gap and achieve decarbonization goals. The document also details best practices for building these digital twins, including conducting energy audits and ensuring the accuracy of existing models.
