Rapid Multi-Sectoral Needs Assessment of Flood-Affected Populations

This document is a factsheet detailing the findings of a rapid multi-sectoral needs assessment conducted in Afmadow District, Somalia, following significant flooding caused by heavy rains during the Deyr rainy season in late 2023. The assessment, carried out from December 4 to 12, 2023, involved 184 interviews across 69 sites, aiming to evaluate the impacts of flooding on local populations. Key findings indicate that approximately 2.48 million people have been affected nationwide, with 1.1 million displaced and 118 fatalities reported. The assessment highlights critical needs such as shelter, non-food items, healthcare services, and nutrition screening. It also documents increased prices of essential goods and a rise in health issues, including acute diarrhoea and malnutrition among children.
