This document is a factsheet detailing the Rapid Needs Assessment (RNA) conducted in the Balcad district of Somalia, following severe flooding that affected local communities. The assessment, carried out by OCHA Hirshabelle in collaboration with local partners, involved 53 key informant interviews across 14 sites from August 27 to 28, 2024. The findings indicate significant humanitarian needs, particularly in shelter, cash-based assistance, and education services. Key results show that 93% of respondents identified shelter as a priority need, while 64% highlighted the necessity for cash-based assistance. Additionally, the assessment revealed that many affected individuals lack access to adequate drinking water and that health facilities have been severely impacted, leading to increased demand for health services. The document outlines the challenges faced by the population, including limited humanitarian support and the destruction of local markets, which complicates access to essential goods and services. Overall, the RNA aims to inform humanitarian response efforts in the region.
