This document is a case study detailing a fuel reduction training program implemented for truck operators at Tata Steel, aimed at addressing high fuel consumption and inefficiencies in loading times. The problem identified was that fuel consumption among operators was up to 40% over target due to high unloading engine RPM and improper driving practices. The solution involved collaboration between Immersive Technologies Managed Services and site training staff to enhance simulation training and develop standardized assessments. The training focused on improving shovel targets, including dig rates and cycle times, as well as truck training goals related to engine RPM and retarder use. Results from the program showed a 3.63% reduction in fuel use, translating to an annual saving of USD 248,550, along with a 4% increase in retarder utilization and a significant reduction in loading times. The case study highlights the effectiveness of targeted training in improving operational efficiency in mining.
