Service Brake Abuse Training Program Implementation

This document is a case study detailing the implementation of a training program aimed at reducing service brake abuse in a fleet of Komatsu 930E-4 trucks at an open-pit copper-molybdenum mine in Chile. The mine, employing 17,000 personnel, faced significant safety concerns due to high service brake errors, which were identified through Komtrax data. The training program, developed by Immersive Technologies Managed Services, included simulation training and a customized curriculum tailored to the mine's standard operating procedures. A cohort of 178 operators was assessed to establish a performance baseline, allowing for targeted training focused on enhancing safety. Following the implementation of the training program in June, data analysis indicated a notable 40% reduction in service brake abuse, demonstrating the effectiveness of the training in improving operator behavior and safety outcomes.
