This case study details a revenue cycle transformation project undertaken by a prominent health system in collaboration with Impact Advisors. The objective was to achieve a margin improvement of $70 million over 12 months by addressing inefficiencies in their revenue cycle management. The assessment identified foundational gaps in technology, workflows, and organizational alignment. A targeted improvement plan was developed, focusing on optimizing the Epic system to support best practices. Key initiatives included reducing denials and avoidable write-offs, enhancing patient collections at the point of service, and redesigning patient access processes. The project resulted in significant financial improvements, including $78.9 million in annualized net revenue from denial management and $6.2 million from improved patient collections. Additionally, the establishment of a centralized Pre-Service department and enhancements to Epic reporting and training contributed to operational efficiency and accountability. The case study illustrates the comprehensive approach taken to transform the health system's revenue cycle operations.
