This case study details the upgrade of the Louisiana Optical Network Infrastructure (LONI), which faced challenges due to its existing optical network reaching the end of its life. The growing demand for high-bandwidth services necessitated a significant network enhancement to support legacy applications and provide up to 600 Gb/s services across 38 university campuses in Louisiana. LONI prioritized maximizing bandwidth economically while ensuring scalability and future-proofing the network. After a thorough selection process, LONI chose Infinera's XTM Series as the DWDM service delivery platform, which allows for a flexible and disaggregated optical architecture. The new network is designed to deliver high-capacity connectivity services, ensuring reliable performance for advanced research. The case study outlines the technical specifications of the new system, including the features of the XTM Series and GX Series components, and concludes with the positive implications for Louisiana's research institutions, highlighting the network's capacity for future advancements.
