This case study details the storage infrastructure overhaul at Chalmers University of Technology, which involved the implementation of a new storage solution provided by Infinidat. The university required a system capable of handling petabyte levels of data while ensuring improved security and simplified management. The new setup consists of a storage area network (SAN) with 15 VMware servers and additional file servers, designed to meet the needs of over 12,000 students and 3,100 employees. The migration from the previous system was facilitated by existing familiarity with fibre network channels. The case study outlines the performance improvements achieved, including significant reductions in data processing times. It also highlights the ease of use of Infinidat's administration software and the reliability of the storage solution, which can maintain operations even when multiple hard drives fail. Overall, the implementation was successful, with no challenges reported during the transition.
