This case study details the implementation of the InfiniBox storage solution at IFOM, The FIRC Institute for Molecular Oncology, which was initiated in response to the growing demands for improved system performance and data management capabilities. Founded in 1998, IFOM focuses on cancer research at a molecular level, requiring efficient handling of large genomic data sets. The existing storage system was deemed slow and unreliable, prompting the search for a more effective solution. The InfiniBox F4260, with a capacity of 1PB, was selected after a comprehensive review of available options. The implementation process was described as faultless, leading to significant improvements in data access times, reportedly about ten times faster than the previous system. The case study emphasizes the importance of innovation in storage solutions to enhance research efficiency and reliability, highlighting the positive outcomes experienced by IFOM following the transition to the InfiniBox system.
