This case study details a large-scale database migration project undertaken by a leading healthcare and life science organization. The objective was to consolidate multiple DICOM applications from on-premises MS-SQL Server databases to AWS Cloud, enabling real-time computing and AI inferencing of medical modalities while meeting FDA’s stringent high-availability SLA requirements. The migration involved transitioning 190 monolithic applications to various AWS Cloud Databases, including Postgres and AWS DynamoDB, and converting applications to microservices to enhance scalability and performance. The AWS Data Migration Service was utilized for a seamless transition, with API latency tests conducted to optimize performance. The organization achieved significant benefits, including over 50% reduction in annual database operating costs, improved patient outcomes through rapid diagnostics, and enhanced clinical insights via advanced AI algorithms. The project exemplifies the integration of cloud-native solutions in healthcare data management.
