This case study details the implementation of a terminal operating system by International Car Operators (ICO) to enhance vehicle processing efficiency at its ports in Antwerp and Zeebrugge. ICO specializes in roll-on/roll-off cargo handling and faced challenges due to the use of disparate IT systems and manual logistics processes prior to 2012. The company sought to unify its operations and improve efficiency through a bespoke software solution developed in collaboration with INFORM. The implemented system optimizes vehicle parking, reduces travel distances, and enhances overall terminal productivity. Key features include electronic inbound and outbound processes, yard and berth planning, and real-time tracking of vehicle information. The results of the implementation indicate a significant increase in terminal efficiency, reduced truck waiting times, and a decrease in driving distances for vehicles, contributing to a lower carbon footprint. The case study emphasizes the strategic importance of the software solution in achieving ICO's operational goals.
