Hearing Loop Technology Implementation at Winnipeg Airport

This case study details the implementation of hearing loop technology at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport, aimed at enhancing accessibility for travelers with hearing loss. Spearheaded by Julie Chapko, the initiative reflects the airport's commitment to creating a barrier-free environment. Inland Audio Visual was responsible for the design, sales, and installation of the hearing loop systems, which transmit sound directly to telecoil-enabled hearing aids, significantly reducing background noise. The project involved the installation of 39 Contacta SUPA-M300 Hearing Loop kits at strategic locations, including check-in counters and information booths. The systems are marked with universal signs for easy identification, and compatible headsets are available for those without telecoil-enabled devices. The successful execution of this project not only improves communication access for passengers but also sets a new standard for accessibility in North American airports. Future phases are planned to further enhance the airport's inclusivity efforts.
