Remote Identity Verification for Pension Fund Management

This case study outlines the implementation of a remote identity verification system by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) in Malaysia, aimed at transforming pension fund management. The EPF, which oversees compulsory savings and retirement planning for private sector workers, sought to simplify the verification process for its members, many of whom are pensioners. The new solution, developed in collaboration with Kridentia and Innovatrics, integrates biometric verification into the i-Akaun app, allowing members to securely access their pension funds online. Key features include a user-friendly interface designed for ease of use, especially for elderly members, and passive liveness detection to enhance security during identity verification. The system can handle high verification volumes, with up to 8,000 verifications on peak days, ensuring reliable access to services. This transformation aligns with EPF's mission to provide secure and accessible retirement solutions, ultimately improving the experience for millions of members.
