This document is a case study detailing the development of the Edge 1250, an automated cardboard core cutting machine by Spiraltech, utilizing Inovance automation products supplied by CAPSS. The Edge 1250 is designed to cut cardboard cores ranging from 60 mm to 1,250 mm in diameter, featuring changeable blades for enhanced versatility. Spiraltech aimed to replace its existing mechanical cutting machine with a safer and more user-friendly automated solution, focusing on repeatability, ease of operation, and efficient changeovers through servo automation. The case study outlines the collaboration between Spiraltech and CAPSS, emphasizing the selection of appropriate Inovance products, including PLCs, servo drives, and motors, which were crucial for the machine's performance in various industrial environments. The Edge 1250 incorporates improved safety features and flexibility, allowing operators to switch between saw and knife blades easily. The successful project execution is attributed to the availability and performance of the selected products, as well as the strong partnership between the involved companies.
