This case study details the collaboration between Motion Tronic and Toyota South Africa Motors to develop a quality control solution for catalytic converters at Toyota's exhaust facility. The objective was to ensure that all exhausts were manufactured with the correct catalytic converter for each applicable model before assembly, thereby reducing the risk of errors in part matching. Motion Tronic, an official distributor of Inovance products, designed a quality control cubical that checks part numbering inside the unit, weld seams, and external part numbers. The solution utilized two IFM infrared cameras linked to a high-performance Inovance H3U PLC, which processed data and communicated results to assembly staff via an IIoT-ready Inovance IT7000 HMI. The implementation of this solution resulted in improved reliability, increased productivity, and cost-effective quality control, ensuring that all assembled exhausts met the required specifications.
