State of Student Success and Engagement in Higher Education

This research study focuses on the state of student success and engagement in higher education within the Philippines. It outlines the current landscape of higher education, highlighting the economic recovery post-COVID-19 and the increasing demand for skilled workers. The study emphasizes the critical role of higher education institutions (HEIs) in equipping students with essential workplace skills. It details the trends observed in student engagement, including a shift towards skills-based education, the importance of practical application of knowledge, and the rising demand for technology accessibility. The research also presents insights from a survey conducted with 571 educators and students, revealing key factors influencing student success and engagement. The findings indicate a growing preference for skills-based learning opportunities, such as certificate programs and apprenticeships, as students seek to enhance their career readiness. Furthermore, the study underscores the need for HEIs to prioritize mental health support for both students and educators, ensuring a conducive learning environment.
