This document is a research article that introduces a new swarm-based metaheuristic called the Iteration Shift Algorithm (ISA) aimed at addressing the Economic Load Dispatch (ELD) problem in power systems. The ELD problem is a critical optimization challenge focused on minimizing the total power generating cost by distributing power demand among generating units. The ISA is evaluated against five contemporary metaheuristics: Golden Search Optimization (GSO), Language Education Optimization (LEO), Walrus Optimization Algorithm (WaOA), Lyrebird Optimization Algorithm (LOA), and Total Interaction Algorithm (TIA). The article details the structure and functioning of ISA, which utilizes iteration to determine the strategy between exploration and exploitation. The results indicate that ISA outperforms the other algorithms in various theoretical functions and is competitive in solving the ELD problem with ten generating units. The document also outlines the methodology, including the initialization and iteration phases of ISA, and presents findings from both theoretical and practical appraisals.
