This research article presents a longitudinal study assessing nurses' emotional exhaustion in a regional teaching hospital in Taiwan, utilizing internal data from 2014 to 2020. The study aims to evaluate the impact of various demographic variables, such as age, supervisor/manager, and organizational experience, on nurses' emotional exhaustion. It employs the emotional exhaustion dimension of the Chinese version of the safety attitudes questionnaire to analyze trends and changes over time. The findings indicate that emotional exhaustion is significantly influenced by demographic factors and highlight the critical question regarding the workload perception of nurses. The study underscores the importance of understanding emotional exhaustion in the nursing profession, as it relates to patient safety and the overall quality of healthcare. By examining these associations longitudinally, the research provides valuable insights for hospital management to address burnout and improve nurses' well-being, ultimately enhancing patient care and safety.
