This case study documents the collaboration between GKN Aerospace and Simufact Additive, focusing on the integration of CAD export and geometry morphing technologies to enhance aerospace design and manufacturing processes. GKN Aerospace faced challenges related to the seamless integration of complex CAD models across various engineering applications, which are critical for maintaining design integrity and efficiency. The study outlines how GKN Aerospace utilized Simufact Additive to improve data exchange, ensure accurate simulations, and integrate deformed geometries into their Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. The CAD Export feature allowed for the transformation of deformed meshes from additive manufacturing simulations into accurate CAD geometries, preserving design features and metadata. The implementation led to significant improvements in accuracy, seamless integration, and time and cost savings in engineering workflows. The case study emphasizes the importance of accurate data exchange and workflow integration in achieving precision and efficiency in aerospace engineering.
