This case study outlines the automation and DevOps challenges faced by a life sciences company aiming to enhance their operational efficiency. The client, managing over 2,000 virtual servers, encountered significant hurdles due to manual processes that hindered their goal of achieving a highly automated infrastructure. Three primary issues were identified: the need for temporary access management, frequent adjustments to memory and CPU capacities, and the manual deployment of new systems. The solution involved the implementation of ansible playbooks to automate these processes, significantly reducing the time required for system modifications and user account creations. The integration of ansible with ServiceNow transformed the request handling process, allowing for automated execution following simple approvals. The results included substantial time savings, cost efficiencies, and improved employee retention through more engaging work. Additionally, the project emphasized education and knowledge transfer to the client's IT team, ensuring long-term success and capability in managing automation independently.
