This case study details the implementation of Jeppesen’s Crew Access and Crew Exchange systems by a major North American airline to enhance crew scheduling and trip trading. The airline faced challenges with manual processes that became cumbersome as it expanded. To address these issues, the airline adopted a self-service platform that improved operational efficiency and crew satisfaction. The systems allowed crew members to manage their schedules through functionalities such as trip trading, reserve day management, self-assignment, and automated legality checks. The results showed significant operational improvements, including reduced workload for schedulers and increased crew satisfaction, which became a competitive advantage for recruitment. The new systems also resolved performance issues, allowing for greater scalability and supporting a larger crew base without a proportional increase in administrative staff. The airline plans to continue optimizing its crew management capabilities by leveraging the configurability of Jeppesen’s systems.
