Smart Buildings and Their Role in Health and Productivity

This technical report evaluates the state of smart buildings and their impact on health, well-being, and productivity. Commissioned by Johnson Controls, the report is based on a survey of 3,445 leaders involved in smart building strategies, focusing on 1,548 leaders responsible for building environment systems. The findings indicate that leaders aim to optimize building environments while enhancing operational efficiency. However, many face challenges due to a lack of integration among building systems and limited ability to utilize data effectively. The report emphasizes the necessity for technical and strategic partners to bridge expertise gaps and improve building efficiency. Key priorities identified include enhancing energy efficiency, improving indoor air quality, and ensuring physical security. The report also outlines the importance of unified smart building platforms to facilitate collaboration across departments, enabling organizations to achieve their goals for occupant health and sustainability.
