This case study outlines the implementation of Körber's Late Stage Customization (LSC) concept in the packaging operations of a global leader in diabetes care and biopharmaceuticals. The document details the challenges faced by the customer in rapidly scaling production for a new drug launch, particularly the need for flexibility in packaging lines to accommodate both small and large batch sizes. It explains how traditional high-speed packaging lines were unsuitable for initial small batch sizes and how frequent changeovers led to increased downtime and costs. The LSC solution, featuring the Blister Into Box and Blister Out of Box (BIB-BOB) module, is presented as a means to enhance production flexibility and efficiency. The case study highlights the benefits of this approach, including reduced waste, minimized installation time, and improved line efficiency exceeding 80%. Additionally, it emphasizes the sustainability aspects of the LSC approach, which helps prevent product loss and reduces the risk of outdated packaging.
