GSA Modernization of Federal Project Management System

This document is a case study detailing the U.S. General Services Administration's (GSA) transition from a legacy project management system to the Kahua platform. The GSA manages a vast real estate portfolio and oversees numerous capital projects annually. The previous system was outdated and inefficient, leading to critical gaps such as missing functionalities, security issues, and complex workflows. The agency required a flexible solution that could integrate with existing systems while ensuring compliance with FedRAMP and GSA's Limited Authority to Operate. The selection of Kahua was driven by its customizable features and ability to consolidate multiple point solutions. Since implementation in 2020, GSA has successfully migrated data from over 700 projects and has improved project management efficiency, user experience, and compliance with federal regulations. The transition has resulted in centralized project data, reduced errors, and enhanced strategic decision-making through real-time reporting and dashboards.
