Kalray and Dell Technologies Collaboration for Railcar Inspection

This case study outlines the collaboration between Kalray, Dell Technologies, and Duos Technologies to enhance railcar inspection processes through advanced technology. Duos Technologies operates the Railcar Inspection Portal (RIP®), which utilizes 190 cameras to capture high-speed images of trains traveling at up to 125 mph. The project aimed to adapt the RIP for passenger trains, necessitating significant improvements in storage and processing capabilities to handle the large volume of data generated. The solution involved a combination of Dell servers and Kalray storage systems, which provided the necessary performance without excessive physical bulk. The configuration allowed for rapid data ingestion and analysis, enabling the detection of maintenance issues and potential safety hazards before they escalate. The partnership has resulted in a scalable system capable of expanding its data processing capabilities, thereby enhancing the safety and efficiency of rail transport.
